Hurrah Portugal! Hurrah Morgado de Sta Catherina!

Competir Internacional is thrilled to announce that the white wine Morgado Sta Catherina 2015 DOC Bucelas has won the Gold Medal at the VinAgora International Wine Competition 2017. We cannot stop sharing our enthusiasm for such a great compliment from the Hungarian market towards the Portuguese products, specially its wines.

VinAgora is an active member of VinoFed (Fédération Mondiale des Grands Concours Internationaux de Vins et Spritiueux) and it has obtained the patronage of major international professional organizations. The contest receives several samples from Hungary, as well as other countries that wish to participate.

 

The selected members of the jury is diverse and international, comprising a wide tasting experience. In compliance with the international standards, at least half of the judges’ origin is from outside Hungary, from close to 15 countries. Most of them are winemakers, but there are several professional writers, sommeliers, and critics as well. Every year, the organization pay special attention to satisfy this prerequisites.

The contest culminates in a a one-day long post-competition Wine Gala, that will happen next 7th of July, where the candidates can represent their wine in order to gain consumer confidence and reach the Hungarian market.

Morgado de Santa Catherina is an intensive wine, with structure, unique characteristics and ageing capacity. This particular white wine is the top expression of Arinto production. The grapes come from vineyards exposed to the south, the fermentation is done in French oak barrels, with battonage, where the wine stays on fine lees for 9 months.
